Beautiful Astorga

It was a short day today, only 16.6 km.  The scenery was varied and stunning again today. We are getting back into hills so tomorrow will be more demanding.

On route today we came upon a young man, Andre from Romania, who offered a variety of food, coffee, tea, and water. There was no charge but there was a can for donations. Of course we put in money after getting  bananas, an orange and a tea bag for later. Andre sleeps right on site, outside on an old sofa with just a curtain to protect him from the weather.

The old city of Astorga has many beautiful buildings. There are several churches and the main cathedral can be seen for miles before arriving in the city.

We ran into friends today who are staying at the same albergue. Jeannette and Doug are from London Ontario. We knew they were going to be on the Camino trail about the same time as us but thought chances were very slim of actually seeing them. It must be Camino magic.
