Off to Torres del Rio

Today was our longest and hottest  day so far. We left Estella shortly after 6:30 am and arrived at Torres del Rio by 4:00 pm.  There was very little shade and with the extra distance we were very happy to arrive at our albergue . Of course, when we arrived at Torres del Rio we found that the town is built on a steep hill and we chose the albergue the furthest up this very steep hill only to find they were full. Crying and begging did not help so off we went back down the hill. Luckily the albergue near the bottom had beds left so we are now showered rested and happy.

Just outside of Estella was the fountain that poured both water and wine. We wisely abstained. As the sun rose we were surrounded by ploughed fields and vineyards. Over every hill there was another beautiful view. Late in the afternoon we ran across a shepherd with his dogs herding sheep and goats. He let us take his picture.

We will see if we are up to the challenge of another long day tomorrow. If we do, we will have to reward our selves with a day off soon.

  1. Experiencing a little 'Camino envy' as I enjoy reading your Camino blog. The heat can sap the energy out of you, so I'm told. Never personally experienced too many hot days on out latest Camino. Stay strong.......lipstick and courage and carry on.
